Originally a charcoal drawing by Egon Schiele, 'Woman Buttoning Her Shoes' is from 1915. This reproduction is printed in the UK on 300gsm textured paper with a solid ash frame, hand-stained in black. It's glazed with a window mount and ready to wall-mount with fittings at the back of the frame. A protégé of fellow Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele was born on 12 June 1890 in Tulln an der Donau, Austria. He studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule (School of Arts and Crafts) in Vienna, where Klimt had once studied, as well as the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna. He was later mentored by Klimt. An early exponent of Expressionism, his figurative paintings and self-portraits are known for their intensity, raw sexuality and unapologetic honesty, often using bright colour. Aged only 28, he died in 1918 when the Spanish flu pandemic reached Vienna. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings?
I love this piece because it brings a sense of understated elegance and a touch of artistic sophistication, perfect for adding character to a minimalist or contemporary interior. The line drawing’s simplicity allows it to work well in a range of colour schemes, particularly neutral or monochrome schemes, where it can stand out without overpowering. It’s ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, or even hallways, especially when paired with natural textures such as wood, linen, or metal. Practical styling tips include framing it within a light or darker wood to complement existing furniture, or grouping it with other monochromatic artwork for a modern gallery wall. Its understated tone makes it versatile and easy to incorporate into both casual and more curated settings.
