Arne Jacobsen's instantly recognisable Egg Footstool is a hero of mid-century design, upholstered in Sørensen’s Grace Leather in an assortment of hues manufactured by Fritz Hansen. The Eggwas crafted using new techniques for its time, with Jacobsen being the first to utilise a strong foam inner shell underneath the ottoman's upholstery. Using a unique process, Jacobsen tested and prototyped its shape and form using clay in his home studio. The footstool sits atop a polished aluminium base and its intricate configuration requires bespoke upholstery. This edition is upholstered in Grace Leather, a firm yet flexible aniline variety crafted from the finest European rawhide from Alpine cattle, with visible, natural markings that only get better with age. Conceptualised in 1958 for Jacobsen's architectural endeavour, the Royal Hotel Copenhagen, the footstool's curves offer a sculptural contrast to the building’s straight edges and vertical lines. Although renovated in 2018, Jacobsen's legacy is still prevalent in every space and room 606 remains unchanged, true to his original commission.
