Description

Pride 2022 artworks In celebration of Pride 2022, alongside EAST END PRINTS, John Lewis & Partners have curated a selection of works by LGBTQAI+ artists. Spanning a variety of genres and styles these works express the diversity of the LGBTQAI+ community. This collection is a vibrant, colourful and summery burst of optimism and sunshine. From bold geometric prints to cheeky photography and graphic illustrations, this collection highlights the wealth of creative contributions of LGBTQAI+ artists that we proudly work with. A colourful abstract print, 'Scale A VIII' by artist Herald Black. With a background in textile printing, Stephen Dow switched to printmaking on paper when setting up his studio heraldblack in 2014. Monoprinting is the main technique in his work, meaning each design is unique. Prints are often taken from card stencils he has assembled, and recently collages have become an important part of his practice. Stephen takes inspiration from his surroundings and environment when making work, alternating between architectural and botanical references resulting in two quite different styles - constructed and sculptural versus organic and fluid. "Pride means different things to many people. It can simultaneously be personal, individual and unifying. Pride can be inner peace and a loud rallying call. Pride means not needing permission to exist, it is unapologetic awareness for those who have often been made to feel less than." - Stephen Dow. The giclée art printing process and 210gsm acid-free archival paper create an exhibition-quality art print with long-lasting colours that more closely resemble the artist's materials and tones. A digital form of the original work is stored and then printed using a commercial printer and pigment-based inks. The print is presented with an acrylic glaze that's optically the same as glass yet lighter in weight making it easier and safer to hang. Ready to hang on your wall, it's framed in obeche wood in a choice of finishes. Have you thought about wall hooks and fittings? EAST END PRINTS picture frames are usually one of two frame widths: medium frame (2.2cm) and wide frame (3.5cm). The frame width varies across the range. The medium frame measures 2.2cm across and comes in the following four sizes: 33.4 x 28.4cm 43.4 x 33.4cm 53.4 x 43.4cm 83.4 x 63.4cm The wide frame measures 3.5cm across and comes in the following four sizes: 36 x 31cm 46 x 36cm 56 x 46cm 86 x 66cm

Our Stylist Says

I love how the East End Prints Herald Black 'Scale A VIII' offers a contemporary, abstract touch that suits modern and minimalist interiors perfectly. Its clean lines and bold colour blocks make it a versatile statement piece, especially in living rooms or home offices with neutral palettes. To style it effectively, consider pairing it with other black or coloured accents to highlight its bold design, and hang it at eye level for maximum impact. Its framed finish lends a polished look, making it suitable for both casual and more sophisticated spaces. It’s a great option if you’re looking to introduce a pop of colour and a touch of modern art into your decor without overwhelming the room.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
