Description

Presented in a range of vibrant hues with a chrome base, Charles and Ray Eames’ DSX Fiberglass Side Chair for Vitra is the most understated piece from the Fiberglass Chair Collection. ,. Originally launched in 1950, the collection introduced the idea of the multifunctional chair, featuring shells that could be combined with a variety of bases, and soon became one of the best-known furniture pieces of the twentieth century. Now referred to as ‘The Chair of a Century’, the DSX Chair’s shell displays the characteristic irregular surface of fibreglass, which appears almost like a natural material thanks to its clearly visible fibres. An organic yet contemporary form, the seat rests upon a solid chrome tubular steel base and features rubber shock mounts to support longer periods of sitting down. In continual development for the modern user, Vitra has revised the geometry of the seat to achieve optimum ergonomics and comfort.

Our Stylist Says

This chair’s sleek design and navy blue fibreglass seat with chrome legs make it a versatile choice for contemporary dining spaces. I love how its clean lines and modern aesthetic can complement both minimalist interiors and more eclectic settings. It works particularly well with neutral or subdued colour palettes, adding a pop of colour without overwhelming the space. For styling tips, consider pairing it with a glass or wood dining table to highlight its slim profile, and add layered textures through soft furnishings like rugs or cushions to bring warmth and comfort. It’s also practical for smaller dining areas, thanks to its streamlined silhouette, making it a stylish yet functional addition.
