Designed in 1950 by iconic duo Charles and Ray Eames for Vitra, the DSR Plastic Side Chair in deep black is an instantly recognisable piece, showcasing the signature black 'Eiffel' base and a refreshed colour palette that pays homage to the model's original colour history while acknowledging aspirations of the future. Crafted from recyclable dyed-through polypropylene for greater comfort, the seat sits on a striking chromed wire base with cross struts and features rubber shock mounts to support longer periods of sitting down. The first industrially produced plastic chair, the DSR Chair has a simple and organic shape that has led to its legendary status and universal appeal. Updated in 2016, Vitra added 2cm to the height of the chair and revised the geometry of the seat for optimum ergonomics and comfort.
This black plastic dining chair offers a sleek, modern look that works particularly well in contemporary and minimalist interiors. I love how its deep black colour adds a sophisticated edge without feeling heavy, making it versatile for both casual and more refined dining spaces. Its streamlined design pairs nicely with various table styles, whether metal, wood, or mixed materials. To style it effectively, consider adding textured placemats or colourful cushions to introduce warmth and comfort, and think about surrounding it with layered lighting or decorative accessories to soften the overall look. It’s a practical choice for busy households due to its durability and ease of maintenance, making it as functional as it is stylish.
