Part of a series of original mixed-media works that explore the shorelines, from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Penzance, seen from car and train windows or by stowaways, sailors and immigrants through the ages. Day Bowman often takes inspiration from the coastal landscape of a childhood spent growing up in a 'holiday destination seaside town'. The recipient of multiple awards, her artworks are a mix of abstract and figurative paintings that experiment with different mediums.
I love this piece because of its bold, abstract approach-it's a striking way to add colour and interest to a room without overwhelming the space. It works particularly well in modern or minimal interiors where it can serve as a focal point, or hung alongside other artworks for a layered look. When styling with this, consider pairing it with neutral tones or natural materials like wood and linen to let the artwork stand out. Practical tips include placing it at eye level in a living room or hallway to create an inviting atmosphere, and using simple frames to keep the focus on the painting itself. It’s a versatile piece that can elevate a contemporary scheme or add a pop of colour to more subdued interiors.
