Description

Design. Lovingly designed by renowned antiques expert, Drew Pritchard, the Atherton chair nods to traditional Irish sofa designs of the early 19th century. Its scrolled arms create an elegant and graceful shape, while deep feather and fibre cushioning feels just as indulgent as it looks. Available with brass castors or simple wooden feet, the charming Atherton armchair can be customised right down to its scatter cushions. Handmade right here in the UK, this exclusive upholstery range combines iconic style details from the last three centuries.

Our Stylist Says

I love the Drew Pritchard armchair for its timeless, classic silhouette combined with a versatile neutral fabric that works well across various interiors. It's an excellent choice for adding a touch of elegance to traditional living rooms, studies, or even a cosy corner in a modern, minimalist space. For styling, consider pairing it with patterned cushions or a textured throw to add visual interest, or position it near a statement side table for a functional yet stylish setup. Its neutral tone offers flexibility, making it easy to incorporate into colour schemes whether you prefer muted earthy tones or bold, contrasting hues. Overall, it’s a practical, stylish piece that can anchor a space while remaining adaptable to different decor moods.

About Barker and Stonehouse

Founded in 1946, Barker and Stonehouse offer a diverse range of stylish and timeless pieces. From contemporary to traditional designs, Barker and Stonehouse brings sophistication and comfort to every room.

A Remarkable Journey

Born from the vision of two young RAF men, Charles Barker and Alex Stonehouse, Barker and Stonehouse emerged as a beacon of hope, infusing post-war Britain with a hint of glamour. Starting from a single store in Stockton on Tees, their entrepreneurial spirit led to rapid expansion, opening multiple stores across the region.

Their fast growth was fueled not only by their flair for business but also by their dedication to innovation. The business transformed over the years, adapting to the changing landscapes of retail, all while preserving its charm and values. By 2021, they marked an impressive 75 years in the industry, a testament to their enduring commitment to quality and customer service.

Sustainability at the Forefront

From the very start, Barker and Stonehouse has held a deep commitment to the environment. This devotion was showcased through initiatives such as the Trees4Trees Project, a reforestation effort in Indonesia.

Ensuring that for every tree used in their products, more than two were replanted, nearly 1.5 million trees have been restored under this initiative.

Their Knaresborough store, one of the greenest retail stores in the UK, further underscores their dedication to sustainable practices. As a cherry on top, by 2021, the company achieved the status of "Carbon Neutral Plus", making them a trailblazer in the furniture industry.

Innovative Spaces and Expanding Horizons

Over the decades, Barker and Stonehouse didn't just expand in number, but in the quality and innovation of their spaces. From opening their iconic store in Battersea, London, which beautifully preserved the characteristics of an old candle factory, to their latest state-of-the-art Gateshead store in 2023, every location tells a story.

They have also ventured into digital realms, ensuring a vast online presence and offering a wide range of products to customers all over the UK. Their partnerships, like the one with Fenwick in 2021, illustrate their adaptability and constant quest to reach new audiences.
