Inflated design! Round and joyful, this wall light in delicious colours puts us in a good mood with its fun, friendly, reassuring shapes. It consists of a white glass globe that takes its place at the heart of a large yellow steel ring that reminds us of a buoy or donut, from which it takes its name. French designer Axel Chay has a knack for developing a daring language of shapes and colours, borrowing here and there, especially from the 80s, like a Julio le Parc curve or the nostalgic silhouette of an Italian terrace on a summer’s evening, which explode into view. A well-intended slap for conventional design and predictable furniture. With its generous curves, the Donut wall lamp dresses your wall with its graphic, colourful, somewhat regressive presence. The simple form, both enigmatic and fun, irresistibly attracts attention and stimulates the imagination. A style that’s full of fantasy yet refined. Designer Axel Chay succeeded in transforming a basic element - two nested rudimentary forms - into a sculptural, original, contemporary piece. The Donut wall light does not go unnoticed, and will become a centrepiece of your decor. Axel Chay is the designer and co-creator of Nova Obiecta, a Marseille studio for creating contemporary objects, founded in 2013. Ultra-creative with a precise taste, Axel Chay designs contemporary pieces, both utilitarian and sculptural, paying homage to kinetic art and the Memphis movement. Seeking abstraction through strict, calculated geometric shapes, he seeks to breathe new life into sculptural furniture and plays with raw materials such as cork, steel and aluminium. The parts are manufactured or industrialised in France. In this way, the hands or machines behind these household objects come from the aeronautics and nuclear sector, as well as from historical French know-how.
This donut wall light is a fun, playful piece that brings a pop of colour to various interiors. I love how its cheerful yellow hue and quirky shape make it ideal for lively spaces like children’s rooms, quirky kitchens, or even modern, eclectic lounges. It works particularly well when paired with neutral backgrounds to let the bold design stand out. For practical styling tips, consider placing it alongside colourful accessories or incorporating it into a gallery wall for a modern twist. Its size and fun design make it a conversation starter while also providing functional lighting, making it both stylish and practical.
