Description

Handmade with a traditional wicker weave and a rounded shape, the Viola armchair from Desser is an attractive design for the living room or conservatory. The laminated rattan on the arms gives a smooth finish, while the closed weave on the base helps to make the Viola furniture sturdy. The armchair has an upright design with a slight angle, allowing for perfect relaxation. The sides are fashioned with cane poles. The hand-sewn seat and backrest cushions are made in the UK with a wrapped finish to help prevent wear and tear. The covers are removable for easy cleaning. The chair complements matching rattan furniture in the Viola range. Strong and durable, natural rattan is low maintenance and easy to keep clean. Wipe the furniture clean with a dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth and dry it afterwards. Keep the furniture in a dry environment and avoid leaving it under direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The furniture’s colour lasts longer if moved around a conservatory regularly to protect it from direct sun in the same spot. Sustainably sourced in Indonesia, rattan is fast-growing compared to wood alternatives and, as a companion crop, its farming encourages the preservation of forests. Every part of the rattan vine is used. Outer rattan cane is used for attractive weaving and the solid core is steamed to manipulate it into beautiful furniture shapes.

Our Stylist Says

I love this armchair for its relaxed yet stylish look, making it a versatile addition to both coastal and bohemian-inspired interiors. The rattan frame adds natural warmth and texture, perfect for creating a laid-back, inviting space. It works beautifully in sunrooms, conservatories, or pairing with neutral or pastel coloured soft furnishings to highlight its biscuit brown hue. Practical styling tips include layering with textured cushions or throws for extra comfort, and placing it alongside a side table to create a cosy reading nook. Its lightweight design also makes it easy to reposition, allowing you to adapt your space effortlessly.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
