Price History

Description

Handmade from natural rattan, this Madrid coffee table from Desser is an attractive and practical piece for an orangery, summerhouse, conservatory or living room. A rectangular design with circular pole detailing and a 5mm toughened glass top. Strong and durable, natural rattan is low maintenance and easy to keep clean. Wipe the furniture clean with a dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth and dry it afterwards. Keep the furniture in a dry environment and avoid leaving it under direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The furniture’s colour lasts longer if moved around a conservatory regularly to protect it from direct sunlight in the same spot. Sourced in Indonesia, rattan is fast-growing compared to wood alternatives. Every part of the rattan vine is used. Outer rattan cane is used for attractive weaving and the solid core is steamed to manipulate it into beautiful furniture shapes.

Our Stylist Says

I love the Madrid Rattan Coffee Table for its light oak finish and versatile design, making it a great addition to both modern and coastal interiors. Its natural material and airy frame help create a relaxed, inviting atmosphere, perfect for living rooms aiming for a casual yet stylish look. I recommend styling it with layered textures - think soft throws, woven baskets, and neutral accessories - to enhance its warmth. It works well with light, neutral colour schemes but can also be complemented with bolder accents for more eclectic spaces. Practical tips include using the glass top to keep the surface easy to clean, and pairing it with comfortable seating around to keep the space functional and welcoming.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
