Handmade from natural rattan, the Burford side table or lamp table from Desser features intricate woven wicker, creating an attractive and practical piece for the living room or conservatory. The square table has sturdy wooden legs and a 5mm toughened glass top and a storage shelf to keep magazines, newspapers and books tucked away. The table complements matching boxy-shaped rattan furniture in the Burford range. Strong and durable, natural rattan is low maintenance and easy to keep clean. Wipe the furniture clean with a dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth and dry it afterwards. Keep the furniture in a dry environment and avoid leaving it under direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The furniture's colour lasts longer if moved around a conservatory regularly to protect it from direct sun in the same spot. Sustainably sourced in Indonesia, rattan is fast-growing compared to wood alternatives and, as a companion crop, its farming encourages the preservation of forests. Every part of the rattan vine is used. Outer rattan cane is used for attractive weaving and the solid core is steamed to manipulate it into beautiful furniture shapes. Want to see it first? I’m a fan of the Burford rattan side table for its clean lines and natural texture - it instantly warms up minimalist, Scandi or coastal schemes. The neutral weave works equally well against whitewashed walls or alongside deeper jewel-tones, and the compact shape makes it ideal next to a sofa or as a bedside perch. For styling, I’d keep the top clear except for a slim vase or ceramic lamp, then use the lower shelf for a stack of design books or a woven basket. Its sturdy construction means you can swap in fresh flowers, a scented candle or a small planter without worrying about stability.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
