Price History

Description

Handmade from natural rattan, the Burford four-seater lounging set from Desser features intricate woven wicker, creating an attractive and practical design for the living room or conservatory. The two-seater sofa and pair of lounge armchairs have handsewn backrest cushions and thick seat cushions made in the UK with a wrapped finish to help prevent wear and tear. The rectangular coffee table has a 5mm toughened glass top and a storage shelf to keep magazines, newspapers and books tucked away. Made with sturdy wooden legs, the set complements matching boxy-shaped rattan furniture in the Burford range. Strong and durable, natural rattan is low maintenance and easy to keep clean. Wipe the furniture clean with a dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth and dry it afterwards. Keep the furniture in a dry environment and avoid leaving it under direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The furniture’s colour lasts longer if moved around a conservatory regularly to protect it from direct sun in the same spot. Sustainably sourced in Indonesia, rattan is fast-growing compared to wood alternatives and, as a companion crop, its farming encourages the preservation of forests. Every part of the rattan vine is used. Outer rattan cane is used for attractive weaving and the solid core is steamed to manipulate it into beautiful furniture shapes. Want to see it first? Our Stylist Says

I love this set for its versatile and timeless appeal, making it a great addition to both traditional and contemporary garden spaces. The natural rattan finish adds warmth and texture, pairing well with neutral cushions or colourful textiles for a personalised touch. Stylistically, it works beautifully in outdoor settings that aim for a relaxed yet refined look - think rustic patios, modern courtyards, or seaside terraces. Practical tips include layering with weatherproof cushions for comfort and using easy-to-move planters or lanterns to frame the dining area. To keep it looking its best, simply clean with a damp cloth and store cushions during harsh weather or cover when not in use. This piece effortlessly balances style and functionality, making outdoor dining both inviting and stylish.

About John Lewis

Founded in 1864, John Lewis is a trusted and beloved brand where you can find a diverse range of furniture for every style and budget, alongside finding the perfect item that reflects your personal taste.

A Legacy of Innovation and Inclusion

John Lewis started as a small shop on London's Oxford Street in 1864. Today, it's part of a bigger family called the John Lewis Partnership, which also includes Waitrose stores.

What makes them special is that they're owned by their employees, known as 'Partners'. The idea, from the beginning, was to give everyone a say in how the business was run. With over 74,000 Partners (employees) at the heart of its operations, the essence of John Lewis's vision, from over a century ago, still echoes today being the largest employee-owned venture.

Adapting to Changing Times

Like many stores, John Lewis has had to change with the times. They've closed some shops but have grown their online business a lot, especially when more people started shopping online during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their history is filled with key moments, like buying Peter Jones in 1905, adding Waitrose in 1937, and starting their website in 2001. They've always tried to adapt and stay relevant.

Commitment to a Greater Purpose

John Lewis believes in doing good and making the world a better place. This is seen in the way they treat their employees and customers. For example, in 2021, they were the first big UK store to give parents six months paid leave when they have a baby and two weeks paid leave if they lose a pregnancy. They've been around for over a century and always aim to do the right thing by everyone.
