Designed in 1950 by iconic duo Charles and Ray Eames for Vitra, the DAX Plastic Armchair in a deep black hue showcases a visually understated dark base and a refreshed colour palette for 2019, paying homage to the model's original colour history while acknowledging future aspirations. Crafted from recyclable dyed-through polypropylene for greater comfort, the seat sits on a dark four-legged tubular steel base for a refined and elegant finish. One of the first industrially produced plastic chairs, the DAX Chair has a simple and organic shape that has led to its legendary status and universal appeal. Updated in 2016, Vitra added 2cm to the height of the chair and revised the geometry of the seat for optimum ergonomics and comfort.
I love this chair for its sleek, modern aesthetic and versatile colour palette. The deep black finish makes it a great option for Contemporary, Scandinavian, or industrial interiors, where it can ground a space while adding a touch of sophistication. Its clean lines and minimalist design offer a clutter-free look, perfect for both formal dining rooms or more casual dining areas. Practical styling tips include pairing it with a wooden or glass table for contrast, or mixing it with metallic accents to enhance its modern vibe. The chair’s sturdy yet lightweight plastic construction also means it’s easy to move around if you like to switch up your layout. Overall, it’s a functional and stylish piece that lends a sense of contemporary elegance to any dining space.
