Of all furniture created by German designer Rainer Daumiller, the pine Daumiller is perhaps the piece that best expressed his values and his design protocol. Its solid construction, its simple shape and its sculptural expression pay tribute to Daumiller's affinity with nature. Constructed from solid, sustainable pine, just like the original pieces produced by Hirtshals Sawmill in 1977, the seat and backrest are ergonomically adapted to the contours of the body, which only adds to the bold and retro expression of this Danish design classic. The Daumiller was inspired by the traditional Danish milking stool, as well as by the China Chair by Hans J. Wegner. Daumiller wanted to create a chair capable of resisting children's games and adults' parties, whilst keeping a sculptural form that is both bold and timeless. The designer's choice of pine shows dedication to sustainability, which was a choice ahead of its time. At the end of the 1970s, wooden furniture was dominated by teak and rosewood. The choice of pine aligned with a sudden accrued awareness of sustainability and the need to carefully manage tropical forests.
