Price History

Description

Inspired by landscape painter Aelbert Cuyp's 17th-century painting of cattle and the artist's childhood on a dairy farm in Ayrshire, this piece depicting cows was made with oil paint and pencil on a gesso panel. Born in Ayrshire, a historic county on the coast of Scotland, abstract artist Philip Maltman is known for exploring the littoral zone through his work - the area of shoreline where the sea meets the land.

Our Stylist Says

I love this piece for its subtle yet engaging composition - it combines a modern aesthetic with a touch of pastoral charm. It works particularly well in contemporary or minimalist interiors, adding a hint of colour and interest without overwhelming the space. I’d suggest pairing it with neutral walls and simple furnishings to let the artwork stand out. Practical styling tips include placing it above a sofa or sideboard for a focal point, or incorporating natural textures like woven baskets or wooden accents nearby to echo its countryside theme. This artwork provides a sophisticated yet approachable accent that balances artistic flair with everyday practicality.
