I’m a big fan of the Crane kids table and chairs for its simple, Scandi-inspired silhouette and durable oak-effect finish. It slots straight into modern, minimalist or Scandi rooms but also softens a more industrial space when teamed with plush floor cushions or a small jute rug. To keep it practical, slide labelled fabric bins under the tabletop for art supplies and add a couple of neutral linen chair pads to make seating comfier. Pop a slim LED clip-on lamp to one side for reading or homework, and finish with a low-profile shelf above to display a few favourite books or wooden toys, keeping the look clean yet child-friendly.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
