The Compile book rest was designed by Cecilie Manz for the Danish brand Muuto. The book rest is available in different colors and materials and can be placed in a number of different ways, thanks to its unique design. The book rest is not only practical, but doubles up as an interesting design detail in the living room or office.

I’ve been using the book rest in green-beige as a neat, functional accent on shelves and desks. Its muted tone and clean lines suit Scandi, Japandi or contemporary interiors, especially when paired with pale woods and white cabinetry. Made from powder-coated steel, it’s sturdy enough for coffee-table books or magazines without drawing too much attention. For styling, slot it between a small stack of art books and a plant pot on an open shelf, or use two either side of cookbooks in the kitchen to introduce subtle colour and keep things organised.
