Designed by the Danish studio OEO, the Carmel coffee table collection puts ceramics in the spotlight. Suitable for both indoors and out, these coffee tables feature a stunning glazed stoneware top with a glossy finish made from a single pressed piece of single-fired Italian stoneware. This material, originally designed for laboratory worktops, is very hard-wearing. As well as giving the tables their vibrant colour and finish, the glaze also protects the surface from UV, liquids, grease, knocks and abrasion, making the Carmel an ideal table for resting coffee cups, cocktail glasses and plates on during long days in the sun. With its curved, organic, minimalist lines and elegantly clean edges, the Carmel coffee table looks like a pebble. The vivid colours, in combination with the glossy, subtly textured surface, result in a beautiful play of light, richness and depth. The solid matt black steel base with its sturdy lines refers to the archetype of iron outdoor furniture. Carmel coffee tables display an expressive, unconventional style. Inspired by OEO Studio's travels to the Pacific Coast, this collection comes in a vibrant colour palette evoking the energy of California’s homes and gardens and the use of colour in Mexican architecture. Carmel refers to the carefree, laid-back, unconventional lifestyle of the famous bohemian resort town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. Carmel Tables can be used alone or grouped together, juxtaposing the different finishes and sizes. Thomas Lykke, designer and co-founder of OEO Studio: “A lot of the inspiration for Carmel comes from California: spending weekends driving along the coast from San Francisco to Baja California, exploring the landscapes and architecture. Passing by Henry Miller's house, relaxing in Santa Barbara and observing the architecture around Los Angeles, the beautiful panoramic views, desert landscapes and the use of colour in Mexican architecture. Due to the nature of ceramics which maintain a life and character of their own, no two tables are the same.
