Description

Designed by our founder Sir Terence Conran, the Clifton Folding Console epitomises his philosophy of 'plain, simple, useful', crafted to his exacting standards by Benchmark Furniture. Displaying the natural beauty of pale ash, the simplicity of the Clifton design allows the material to stand at the forefront. Named after the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol because of its curves and tension, the console neatly folds when not in use. A hallmark of Conran design, the piece exhibits exposed jointing and a white oiled finish, remaining functional and versatile. Founder of The Conran Shop, designer and restaurateur Sir Terence Conran (1931-2020) is widely regarded as the voice of authority on design in the UK. Inspired by Bauhaus principles and Scandinavian craftsmanship, Sir Terence believed that every designer should have a personal understanding of materials and processes.

Our Stylist Says

I love this folding console because of its clean, minimalist design and versatile functionality. Its Ash finish lends a natural, warm touch that helps it fit seamlessly into a variety of interiors, from Scandi-inspired schemes to more contemporary spaces. Perfect for narrow hallways or as a stylish surface in living rooms, it doubles as both a statement piece and a practical surface for plants, lamps, or decorative trays. For styling tips, consider pairing it with understated accessories for a calm look, or add colourful ceramics and artwork to create visual interest. The fold-away feature also makes it ideal for smaller spaces, allowing easy storage when extra space is needed.
