Studio SPF was born as an antidote for lockdown boredom. An energetic collaboration between queer artists Tegan, an abstract painter, and Lottie, a Tattoo artist and illustrator. Taking references from the image-saturated digital landscape, poses and gestures are mimicked, re-imagined and re-incorporated onto the canvas. Their contribution to the pictures are individual yet highly integrated. Tegan creating the abstract planes upon which Lottie composes the androgynous figures. Revelling in the pleasures of consumption, performativity and the intimate, the inception of Studio SPF's painting practice is one that reaps the rewards of the happy mistake. 'Chameleon' by Studio. SPF Acrylic and oil on canvas Exclusive piece from the M.A.H Gallery collection
I love the Chameleon by Studio piece for its bold, contemporary appeal and its playful take on portraiture. It works particularly well in modern or eclectic interiors, where it can serve as a statement piece to spark conversation. Practical styling tips include pairing it with minimalist furnishings to let the artwork stand out, or incorporating it into a gallery wall with other colourful or abstract art for a curated look. Its vivid colours and distinctive style make it versatile enough to add personality to both living rooms and bedrooms, and it’s especially effective when hung at eye level to draw immediate attention. This piece is a great way to inject some colour and personality into a space in a way that feels both fresh and accessible.
