Description

Our Chakala coffee tables are made from reclaimed wooden herb grinders, once a traditional feature of Indian everyday life. The chunky wood tabletop is rich with character and interest. The simple iron frame provides a stylish base.

Our Stylist Says

I’m a fan of the Chakala side table for its mix of solid mango-wood and slender metal legs - it brings warmth without feeling bulky. Its simple silhouette works equally well in Scandi, industrial or bohemian schemes, and the natural finish sits nicely against both white walls and deeper accent colours. Styling-wise, use it as a small plant stand or beside a lounge chair holding a coffee cup and a book. Group two at different heights to create interest, or slot it next to a bed as a pared-back nightstand. Its compact size means you can move it around to suit your changing layout.

About Nkuku

Established in 2003, Nkuku offers ethically sourced, handcrafted, and eco-friendly homewares and furniture. Their pieces introduce an element of rustic elegance to your space, perfect for creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The Story of Nkuku

Inspired by the artisans they met during a world trip in 2002, Ali and Alex established Nkuku, a brand that celebrates handmade techniques and traditional skills from artisans across the world.

The journey began with a business plan drafted on a beach, with the name "Nkuku" taken from a Zambian village they passed.

Starting in Devon, they initially sold products from their travels at local markets. Eventually, Nkuku transitioned from a wholesale business to a known retail brand, offering a wide range of homewares, from tableware to furniture.

Values and Ethical Commitment

Nkuku is not just about selling products; it's about values. They are committed to an ethical approach, partnering with independent businesses, social projects, and cooperatives. Their focus? Building transparent, strong relationships with suppliers to ensure mutual success.

They're also environmentally conscious, incorporating natural and recycled materials into their products. From golden hemp and reclaimed mango wood to textiles recycled from old t-shirts, Nkuku champions sustainability and eco-friendly production methods.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Every Nkuku product tells a tale, capturing the essence of traditional, handmade craftsmanship. By embracing low-impact production methods, they bring collections that are individually crafted, ensuring each piece is unique.

The brand cherishes the age-old knowledge passed down through generations of artisans. It's not just about home décor for them; it's about keeping a rich heritage alive and celebrating the beauty of handmade uniqueness.
