The wonderfully simple oak wood CH46 and CH47 dining chairs were designed by the celebrated architect and product designer, Hans J. Wegner in 1965.Crafted from solid oak with a hand-woven paper cord seat, the design uses timbers, sourced from responsible sawmills in Wegner's native Denmark. Inspired by the minimalist form of Shaker furniture, the CH47 showcases Wegner's affinity for functional, elegant simplicity. Wegner was one of the most prolific designers of the 20th century, having created over 500 different chairs over the course of his career. He began work as a cabinetmaker, providing him with a profound respect for the properties and beauty of wood, as well as exacting joinery techniques. A master craftsman, he joined Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller, designing furniture pieces for the new city hall in Århus in 1940, the same year in which he began collaborating with Holger Hasen, whose company, Carl Hansen & Son continue to produce Wegner's classic chairs, including the CH47 and the iconic Wishbone Chair.
