A beautiful example of Danish designer, Hans J. Wegner's visionary works, the elliptical CH338 dining table offers simplicity, elegance and functionality. Designed in 1962, the tabletop and legs are crafted from solid oak wood, finished with a subtle soap effect to allow it to adapt to any contemporary setting. Created to have perfectly rounded edges, the CH338 Table has no corners to ensure it remains compact within its setting. Crafted in Denmark by artisans at the prestigious Carl Hansen workshop, the CH338 Table is the smaller version of the CH339 Table and is created to exacting standards for longevity and a classic finish. Hans Wegner was one of the most prolific designers of the 20th century, having created over 500 different chairs over the course of his career. He began work as a cabinetmaker, providing him with a profound respect for the properties of wood, as well as exacting joinery techniques. He joined Arne Jacobsen and Erik Moller, designing furniture pieces for the new city hall in Århus in 1940, the same year in which he began collaborating with Holger Hasen, whose company, Carl Hansen & Son continue to produce Wegner's classic pieces, including the elliptical dining table. This table is created with a central seam, which allows it to become extendable with wooden inserts. Home life - Carl Hansen & Son from Monocle on Vimeo.
