Handcrafted in Denmark, these pieces with their exceptional quality stand the test of time. With the strictest respect for the original models, Carl Hansen & Søn reissues the legendary creations of Hans J. Wegner (1914 – 2007), considered one of the founders of Scandinavian design. The CH25 lounge chair is one of the first four seats that Hans J. Wegner created exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn at the start of their collaboration in 1950. These wooden chairs with their paper cord seats are today among the designer's best-known and most sought-after creations. The CH25 lounge chair has been in continuous production since 1950. The CH25 lounge chair was considered revolutionary at the time due to the choice of seat material. Woven paper cord, a substitute for seagrass developed during World War II, had never been used in furniture before. Wegner was enthusiastic about the appearance and durability of the material. Very robust, the paper cord perfectly imitates plant fibre, with its warm, natural aspect. It's lifespan easily stretches over 50 years and is (at least) as durable as textiles and quality leather. It takes a skilled craftsman 10 hours and around 400 metres of paper cord to create a seat and backrest by hand, using a particular weaving technique, visible on both sides of the backrest. The striking result of this demanding process is an exceptional chair that fascinates from every angle. The ergonomics, clean, organic contours and refined style illustrate the unique design approach and insightful know-how of the young Hans J. Wegner. The CH 25 lounge chair is much more than just a piece of furniture: it's a functional work of art that embodies the heritage of Danish design.
