Description

The Wishbone Chair with a red-brown beech frame and black paper cord seat was first designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 and is crafted today to his exacting standards by Carl Hansen & Søn. Inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs, this original design showcases the ergonomic sensibility that defines an antique Chinese chair. With its steam-bent top rail and wonderfully sculptural shape, the lightweight chair allows for freedom of movement and superior comfort, making it an ideal piece for both work and relaxation spaces. The chair's characteristic 'Y'-shaped detail gives the chair its name and also provides exquisite support and stability. Involving over 100 hand-rendered production steps in total, the seat is beautifully hand-woven from 120 metres of paper cord that can last up to 50 years.

Our Stylist Says

I love the Ch24 Wishbone in its vivid red-brown finish, which instantly injects warmth and character into a dining space. Its classic yet contemporary design makes it incredibly versatile-perfect for both modern interiors and more traditional settings that could benefit from a splash of colour. Tip: pair it with neutral-toned tables to let the chair stand out, or mix it with other bold hues for an eclectic look. Its lightweight construction makes it easy to move around, so it’s great for flexible dining arrangements or family gatherings. The black paper cord seat brings a subtle textural contrast that adds depth, making it suitable for everyday use without sacrificing style.
