Description

The Wishbone Chair with a purple-blue beech frame and naturally hued paper cord seat was first designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 and is crafted today to his exacting standards by Carl Hansen & Søn. Inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs, this original design showcases the ergonomic sensibility that defines an antique Chinese chair. With its steam-bent top rail and wonderfully sculptural shape, the lightweight chair allows for freedom of movement and superior comfort, making it an ideal piece for both work and relaxation spaces. The chair's characteristic 'Y'-shaped detail gives the chair its name and also provides exquisite support and stability. Involving over 100 hand-rendered production steps in total, the seat is beautifully hand-woven from 120 metres of paper cord that can last up to 50 years.

Our Stylist Says

I love the Ch24 Wishbone Chair in its bold purple-blue hue, as it adds a modern twist to the timeless beech frame and natural paper cord. It's versatile enough to work in both contemporary and classic interiors - pairing beautifully with neutral tones for a pop of colour or matching with other blue accents for a cohesive look. Practical styling tips include layering with textured textiles like woven placemats or cushions to soften its colour, and placing it in well-lit dining spaces or breakfast nooks to highlight its sculptural shape. This chair's balanced mix of tradition and modernity makes it a great choice for those wanting an iconic piece that stands out without overpowering the surrounding decor.
