Description

The Wishbone Chair with a berry-red beech frame and black paper cord seat was first designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949 and is crafted today to his exacting standards by Carl Hansen & Søn. Inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs, this original design showcases the ergonomic sensibility that defines an antique Chinese chair. With its steam-bent top rail and wonderfully sculptural shape, the lightweight chair allows for freedom of movement and superior comfort, making it an ideal piece for both work and relaxation spaces. The chair's characteristic 'Y'-shaped detail gives the chair its name and also provides exquisite support and stability. Involving over 100 hand-rendered production steps in total, the seat is beautifully hand-woven from 120 metres of paper cord that can last up to 50 years.

Our Stylist Says

The Wishbone chair in berry red with beech and black paper cord is a versatile piece that adds a pop of colour while maintaining a classic silhouette. I love how its bold hue can brighten up a neutral or monochrome dining area, making it feel more inviting. It works particularly well in contemporary, Scandi, or even eclectic interiors, where its clean lines and subtle colour contrast bring a stylish edge. For styling tips, try pairing it with natural wood or soft textiles to create a balanced look, or use it as a statement piece around a minimalist table. Its timeless design also allows it to transition easily between casual and more refined settings, making it a smart investment for those seeking both function and flair.
