Description

In celebration of Hans J. Wegner's enduring legacy and over 70 years of collaboration with Carl Hansen & Søn, the Masterpiece Edition: Reimagining the Classics collection presents Ilse Crawford's respectful reimagining of Wegner's CH24 Wishbone Chair for the esteemed manufacturer, newly available in a considered contemporary colour palette. The CH24 Wishbone Chair, originally manufactured in 1950, belonged to Wegner's debut Carl Hansen & Søn collection. Inspired by a portrait of Danish merchants sitting in traditional Ming chairs, this original design showcases the ergonomic sensibility that defines an antique Chinese chair. Elegantly crafted from oak wood and paper cord, the chair is reinterpreted for the modern generation with a limited-edition colour palette, developed by Ilse Crawford and inspired by the expressionist works of Per Kirkeby and Nordic abstraction. Imbuing the classic form with depth and subtle complexity, the non-toxic, water-based paints allow the natural beauty of the FSC-certified oak to take centre-stage, whilst adding an atmospheric, modern twist.

Our Stylist Says

I love this piece because it combines classic design with a contemporary twist through its Seaweed hue, making it versatile for both modern and traditional interiors. The Wishbone Chair’s elegant curves and natural woven seat create a sense of warmth and craftsmanship. It works exceptionally well in eclectic or minimalist settings, where its colour can add a subtle pop without overwhelming. For practical styling tips, pairing it with a neutral-toned dining table will let the colour stand out, while adding tactile elements like textured tableware or textiles can enhance its welcoming vibe. Perfect as an everyday dining chair that also doubles as an eye-catching statement piece.
