The CH23 chair was one of the first chairs designed exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn by Hans J. Wegner in 1950. This highly modern creation set new standards in design. Its ergonomics, clean, organic contours and refined style illustrate the unique design approach and insightful know-how of the young Hans J. Wegner. Carl Hansen & Søn reintroduced the CH23 chair in 2017, once again incorporating the early masterpieces of Hans J. Wegner. As always, the design remains faithful to Wegner's original hand-drawn sketches, with all aesthetic and structural components intact. The CH23 chair is much more than just a piece of furniture: it's a functional work of art that embodies the heritage of Danish design. Although the CH23 chair may appear simple at first glance, it incorporates lots of sophisticated details, including elegant cruciform back covers, a double-woven seat and arched rear legs that ensure optimal stability. The seat is covered with hand-woven paper cord. Robust and durable, the paper cord perfectly imitates plant fibre, with its warm, natural aspect. It's lifespan easily stretches over 50 years and is (at least) as durable as textiles and quality leather.
