Designed in 1963 by Hans J. Wegner and produced by master craftspeople at Carl Hansen & Son, the dynamic, sculptural presence of the CH07 Shell Chair is crafted from Danish-oiled walnut wood and upholstered in rich Thor leather available in a variety of hues. A controversial design at the time of its release in 1963, the CH07 Shell Chair initially divided the public's opinion, however its elegant clean-lined aesthetic won it a selection of design awards upon its re-release in 1998.Each CH07 chair is handmade from oiled walnut wood by master craftspeople in Denmark and showcases an avant-garde silhouette with ergonomic lines and contemporary proportions. Its cushioned seat and back are upholstered in Carl Hansen & Son's Thor leather: a beautifully soft semi-aniline ox hide with a natural grain and protective coating. The CH07 Shell Chair in walnut and leather is an excellent example of iconic Danish designer Hans J. Wegner's constant striving towards organic simplicity in his work, and his desire to create sculptural beauty, comfort and outstanding stability.
