A mise en abîme of timeless classics. Driven by the increasing overlap between design and architecture, the creators don't hesitate to change the scale of famous buildings to turn them into decorative items. A way to draw on an immemorial heritage. The Castellum lamp takes inspiration from the famous Grundtvig church, a Copenhagen expressionist masterpiece. The black steel arch represents strength and stability - just like the Grundtvig doors. This arch houses a white plastic structure which reproduces the rows of slender columns which decorate the vast vaulted venue, giving rise to a wonderful depth and perspective effect. The white plastic is illuminated, giving off a vibrant light. The minimalist decoration that is the central golden ball is reminiscent of the round window which overlooks the church's entrance. This ball serves as a dimmer: it rises and lowers in order to vary the brightness. This movement heavenwards symbolises spiritual elevation. The use of forms taken from architecture is a way to insert your home landscape into conventions known to all, a safe bet which guarantees a perfect form.
I love this lamp for its sleek, modern silhouette and the way it balances functional illumination with minimal elegance. Its monochrome black finish makes it versatile, working well in contemporary, Scandinavian, or even eclectic interiors. It’s particularly effective as a statement piece on a side table, desk, or console, adding visual interest without overwhelming the space. For styling, consider pairing it with textured materials or matte finishes to create a layered look, and avoid overcrowding the surrounding area to let its sculptural shape really stand out. Overall, it’s a stylish yet practical addition that enhances both cosy corners and modern workspaces.
