Description
Hans J. Wegner designed the very first model of the Wishbone Chair exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1949, since then this iconic chair has been in continuous production since its introduction in 1950. More than 100 steps are required to manufacture each Wishbone Chair, most of which are carried out by hand. The hand-woven seat alone takes a skilled craftsman about an hour to create, using approximately 120 meters of paper cord, the impressive durability and stability of which makes the chair both strong and long-lasting.

I always keep a Wishbone chair in mind for its clean lines and lightweight feel - the white-oiled ash frame pairs effortlessly with natural materials and brings an understated touch to both modern Scandi schemes and more eclectic spaces. Its sculptural backrest doesn’t overwhelm a room, so it’s ideal around a dining table, at a desk or even in a bedroom corner.
For styling, tip a small linen cushion or a slim sheepskin over the seat for extra comfort and warmth. Mix and match with a simple wooden bench or muted-tone chairs to avoid rigidity, and drape a soft wool throw over one arm to break up straight lines without hiding that signature Y-shaped back.
