I’m a fan of this button-tufted armchair and matching footstool because the slim steel legs and deep grey upholstery strike a great balance between comfort and clean lines. It works particularly well in modern Scandi or mid-century schemes, where its subtle texture and understated colour won’t compete with bolder accents.
Styling tip: add a lighter, knitted throw draped over one arm and a contrasting cushion in ochre or blush for a pop of colour. Position it beside a slim floor lamp and small side table to create a cosy reading nook, or tuck it into a corner with a tall plant behind to soften the angles.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
