Red jasper is an opaque, fine-grained variety of chalcedony containing up to 20% foreign materials. Its colors include red, yellow, orange, or brownish-red. It owes its red color to iron inclusions, and its Mohs hardness is 7. Red jasper was known to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who associated it with the blood of their gods and goddesses. In early Christianity, it was associated with the Passion of Christ and used in carvings of the crucifixion. Red jasper is said to promote emotional stability, courage, and strength. It can also be used to ground and stabilize the energy field.
