Description
"A delicious retro air and a wonderful combination of noble materials for this Blown lamp which combines marble and blown glass. The lampshade faceted like a diamond brilliantly combines innovation and Scandinavian tradition. The making of Blown combines a remarkable craft expertise with industrial processes coming from cutting-edge technologies. The designer, Samuel Wilkinson's aim was to explore the reflections, distortions and refractions of light through the patterns of the glass. The diamond patterns, based on extensive research, were developed via 3D design software. They were carefully designed to reflect the light in an optimal way, from all angels from the diffuser. Initially, the molten glass is mouth blown and moulded by master glass-blowers. The glass that is still hot is then removed and blown again in a metal mould made via the 3D software. It is the mould that imprints the 3D patterns into the glass. The size of each glass bubble as well as the texture of the material is controlled by computer in a very accurate way. The designer explains: "Like with each project, you start with an idea, and so you start by looking at the world around through a kind of filter. I looked at antique ceramics, old pieces of glass, lenses from old lamps, lighthouses and even mirrored bottles, just to see how the light breaks away. """.
