A display of colours to die for! Renee Mennen and Stefanie van Keijsteren make up the Dutch design studio Rens. With their Blended rugs, the duo continue their research into the endless possibilities of colouring, blending and matching shades. The Blended rug presents a rhythmic, dynamic composition of geometric shapes with destructured outlines. The large colour rectangles overlap and merge, giving rise to shadow effects between the different parts of the rug. Some colour blocks seem to almost rise above the others, creating a three-dimensional effect. The main colours are in harmony with the transitional shades, creating a beautiful graded effect. The vibration of colours creates incredible energy and releases a sense of tranquillity and well-being. This rug reflects the image of a world full of light, happiness and optimism. Very pictorial, Blended brings real work-of-art value to the floor of any room it occupies. The subtle play of colours of the Blended rug is the result of a complex technical process inspired by risography, a mechanical printing technique.
I really like this rug because of its flexible colour palette and modern design-it works well in a variety of interior styles, from contemporary to eclectic. Its sizeable 330 x 400 cm scale makes it a statement piece, perfect for expansive living rooms or open-plan spaces. A top styling tip is to layer it over neutral flooring to help its multicoloured tones pop or pair it with solid-coloured furniture to let the rug take centre stage. Because of the mix of colours, it’s a practical choice for homes with mixed palettes or busy interiors, adding visual interest without overwhelming the space. Overall, it’s a versatile, vibrant addition that can really tie a room together by bringing colour and texture to the floor.
