Price History

Description

A collection of hand crafted Nguni cow by Zimbabwean artist, Malaki Ndlovu. Malaki collects discarded wire which is used to form the structure of the cow. Egg boxes from the local community are broken down to a pulp which is moulded around the wire frame. Once dried the Nguni come to life with their paint technique and markings. Each piece produced is unique in its composition and a work of art. The paper mache Nguni cow are the perfect decor piece, collectors item or thoughtful gift.   Papier-mché is a composite material consisting of paper pieces or pulp, reinforced with textiles, bound with an adhesive, such as glue, starch, or wallpaper paste which gives it a slight glazed look on the surface.  Size:  37cm. L x 19cm x 24cm Avoid Moisture: Keep in a dry environment. High humidity can cause moulding or weaken the structure. Avoid Direct Sunlight: Long-term exposure to sunlight can fade paint and cause yellowing, making it best to display pieces away from direct UV rays. Paper 50%

Our Stylist Says

I love this paper mache Nguni cow for its robust, rustic charm and local character. Its monochrome palette makes it versatile enough to work in both contemporary and eclectic interiors, adding a touch of storytelling and texture. It pairs well with natural materials, such as wood, leather, and woven textiles, and can serve as a focal point on a sideboard, console table, or shelf. For practical styling, consider grouping it with other African-inspired decor or placing it in a neutral setting to allow its distinctive form and aged finish to stand out. It’s perfect for creating a curated, boho vibe or adding a hint of cultural heritage to modern spaces.
