Our Stylist Says

I love this ceiling light because of its clean, minimal design combined with the tactile ribbed texture, which adds subtle visual interest without overwhelming a space. The opal glass provides a warm, diffuse glow, making it versatile for both cosy living rooms and modern kitchens, while the brass detail adds a touch of elegance. It works particularly well in contemporary, Scandinavian, or mid-century interiors, where simple shapes and quality finishes are key. For styling tips, consider hanging it over a dining table or in a hallway with other brass accents to create a cohesive look, and ensure the height is adjustable to optimise light spread and visual balance within your room.

About BHS.com

Founded in 1928, BHS is a renowned brand that caters to various tastes and budgets. From modern to classic designs, BHS offers quality items that effortlessly elevate your decor.

Historical Roots

British Home Stores, known as BHS, was founded by a group of U.S. entrepreneurs with the goal of replicating the same success that was seen by Woolworths.

Their first store was on the streets of Brixton and the brand quickly gained popularity for its diverse offerings.

Over time, their range of products expanded to encompass not just clothing and household items, but also furniture, electronics, entertainment, and even beauty products. By the 1960's, BHS already had 94 stores across the nation!

Expansion and Evolution

BHS has always been on the cutting edge of retail trends! In the 1970s and 1980s, when indoor shopping centres were gaining popularity, BHS quickly adapted. Their collaboration with Sainsbury's led to the creation of SavaCentre hypermarkets, which offered a combined retail experience of both general merchandise and groceries.

They didn't limit themselves to the UK either. By 1985, BHS opened its doors in Gibraltar, marking its international debut. Significant milestones like the merger with Habitat and Mothercare in 1986 further shaped its success.
