The BL9 M Bestlite pendant lamp is a modern design icon that saw the light of day in Birmingham in 1930. Today, the lamp is regarded as a jewel in the English design tradition. Winston Churchill is numbered amongst its many famous users. The Bestlite design was conceived by Robert Dudley Best who was highly influenced by the Bauhaus a school in Germany. Since 2004 Bestlite is produced by the Danish company Gubi.
The Bestlite pendant in bone china-black is a timeless piece that offers both form and function. I love how its minimalist design can complement a variety of interiors, from Scandi-inspired spaces to more industrial or modern aesthetics. Its understated elegance makes it versatile, perfect for hanging over a kitchen island, dining table, or in a cosy reading nook. When styling, consider pairing it with warm wood tones or contrasting with matte black fixtures for a cohesive look. Practical tips include using dimmable bulbs to adjust the mood and keep the pendant at an appropriate height to avoid glare. Overall, this light adds a touch of understated sophistication without overpowering the space.
