Description

Designed by Harry Bertoia in 1950 as a result of an experiment that involved bending metal rods into practical art, this iconic chair is as much a sculptural work of art as it is a chair. Crafted by Knoll, its frame is made from strong welded steel rods in a polished chrome finish or bonded Rislan finish. Its strikingly innovative and seemingly fragile filigree construction masks the chair's strength and durability. Featuring a removable fully upholstered cover, each elegant chair is adorned with Harry Bertoia's signature as a mark of authenticity. Described by Italian designer Christophe Pillet as universal, timeless and absolutely necessary, the chair was awarded the Certificate of Merit by the American Institute of Architects and the Design Center Stuttgart Award (1962).

Our Stylist Says

I love this chair because it combines a sleek, modern aesthetic with practicality. The upholstered seat adds comfort and softness, making it suitable for longer meals or casual dining spaces, while the chrome frame keeps it looking contemporary and light. It works particularly well in minimalist or Scandinavian-inspired interiors, where clean lines and subtle textures are key. For styling tips, consider pairing it with a statement dining table or contrasting it with textured textiles and layered tableware to create a balanced, inviting look. A good trick is to mix these with other materials like wood or matte finishes in your space to prevent the chrome from overpowering softer elements.
