Description

Introducing Bernard Hippo; a quirky table lamp full of charisma. Bernard holds an exposed bulb that will emit a wonderful bright light and is certain to be a focal point in your home. With a matte gold finish, Bernard has a delicate antique aesthetic which would look amazing in a room that is going for a maximalist theme. This table lamp is a must have for all animal lovers, whether it’s to put on your bedside table or in your living room.

Our Stylist Says

I love this hippo lamp for its playful yet sophisticated vibe, making it an excellent statement piece. Its matte gold finish works beautifully in both contemporary and eclectic interiors, adding a touch of glamour without feeling overly formal. It’s particularly effective when styled on side tables, consoles, or open shelving with other metallic accents or natural textures. For practical styling tips, consider pairing it with neutral or muted colour palettes to make the gold pop, or with bold colours for an eclectic look. Also, since the lamp features a unique design, keep surrounding accessories minimal to let the hippo stand out and serve as a fun conversation starter.

About BHS.com

Founded in 1928, BHS is a renowned brand that caters to various tastes and budgets. From modern to classic designs, BHS offers quality items that effortlessly elevate your decor.

Historical Roots

British Home Stores, known as BHS, was founded by a group of U.S. entrepreneurs with the goal of replicating the same success that was seen by Woolworths.

Their first store was on the streets of Brixton and the brand quickly gained popularity for its diverse offerings.

Over time, their range of products expanded to encompass not just clothing and household items, but also furniture, electronics, entertainment, and even beauty products. By the 1960's, BHS already had 94 stores across the nation!

Expansion and Evolution

BHS has always been on the cutting edge of retail trends! In the 1970s and 1980s, when indoor shopping centres were gaining popularity, BHS quickly adapted. Their collaboration with Sainsbury's led to the creation of SavaCentre hypermarkets, which offered a combined retail experience of both general merchandise and groceries.

They didn't limit themselves to the UK either. By 1985, BHS opened its doors in Gibraltar, marking its international debut. Significant milestones like the merger with Habitat and Mothercare in 1986 further shaped its success.
