Belleville is the dynamic Parisian district where you’ll find the studio of designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Classic French bistro furniture and the lively ambiance of their neighbourhood were the inspiration for the Belleville Chair. With its familiar shape, the chair immediately evokes a certain obviousness - even in a contemporary context - while presenting a mysterious side, a somewhat disconcerting aspect. Indeed, it only lets you see its materials, construction and manufacturing process at second glance. Demonstrating great technical sophistication, this Belleville armchair is made up of two distinct elements: a polyamide supporting structure and a moulded plywood seat shell. Like calligraphy, the slender black frame outlines the legs and back of the seat and accommodates the thin, airy shell. The thin shell tapers from the seat to the backrest, creating a play of voids and solids. The contrasting materials of the wooden seat shell and the thin black plastic frame are the distinguishing feature of this Belleville armchair. A seat with a hybrid style whose formal language and materials are harmoniously coordinated. The characteristic forward-curved armrests trace sinuous, graphic lines in the air, while offering great comfort. Lightweight, sturdy and stackable, this armchair with its wooden shell is for indoor use only. The Belleville armchair is available with a plastic or wooden shell. Associated with Belleville tables, Belleville armchairs and chairs form a homogeneous yet varied whole, a hybrid family whose formal language and materials are harmoniously coordinated. The seats and tables can thus be perfectly combined, in small or large numbers, to furnish lively bistros, galleries with light, modern decoration or apartments with the most diverse styles.
I love this wooden dining chair for its clean, understated silhouette and natural finish, making it versatile for a range of interiors. It works particularly well in modern, Scandinavian, or minimalist settings where its simplicity can really shine, but it can also add warmth to more eclectic or rustic spaces. Practical styling tips include pairing it with light-toned tabletops for a cohesive look or mixing different wood finishes for an eclectic vibe. It’s also worth considering upholstered seat pads for extra comfort in dining areas that see regular use. Overall, this piece offers both style and durability, making it a smart choice for those seeking timeless design with a natural touch.
