Our Stylist Says

I love the simplicity and functionality of the Barley Spotlight in white; its clean lines and neutral colour make it versatile across various interiors. It works particularly well in modern, minimalist, or even Scandi-inspired spaces where streamlined lighting is key. Practical styling tips include positioning it to highlight artwork, architectural details, or to provide task lighting in kitchens and home offices. Its adjustable head adds flexibility, making it a great choice for spaces that require adaptable illumination without cluttering the wall. Overall, it’s a understated but effective piece that can elevate a room’s aesthetic while offering practical light control.

About BHS.com

Founded in 1928, BHS is a renowned brand that caters to various tastes and budgets. From modern to classic designs, BHS offers quality items that effortlessly elevate your decor.

Historical Roots

British Home Stores, known as BHS, was founded by a group of U.S. entrepreneurs with the goal of replicating the same success that was seen by Woolworths.

Their first store was on the streets of Brixton and the brand quickly gained popularity for its diverse offerings.

Over time, their range of products expanded to encompass not just clothing and household items, but also furniture, electronics, entertainment, and even beauty products. By the 1960's, BHS already had 94 stores across the nation!

Expansion and Evolution

BHS has always been on the cutting edge of retail trends! In the 1970s and 1980s, when indoor shopping centres were gaining popularity, BHS quickly adapted. Their collaboration with Sainsbury's led to the creation of SavaCentre hypermarkets, which offered a combined retail experience of both general merchandise and groceries.

They didn't limit themselves to the UK either. By 1985, BHS opened its doors in Gibraltar, marking its international debut. Significant milestones like the merger with Habitat and Mothercare in 1986 further shaped its success.
