These luminous sculptures shaped like peeled bananas, evocative of the American Pop Art movement, were created by the Belgian artists at Studio Job. The Banana lamps were created initially in limited editions for the Art Light exhibition at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris. Seletti then decided to mass-produce these wacky, offbeat lamps, replacing the bronze with golden resin. The slender white diffuser is made of glass. The banana is the most popular fruit in the world. The Banana lamp is a reference to the other popular Pop Art icons, for example the Campbell’s Soup Cans, Dollars Signs and Coca-Cola Bottles. These ultra-realistic lamps shaped like peeled bananas are inspired by the Andy Warhol movement : they are a positive representation of something we see everyday, something everyone can recognise. Objects are portrayed in their simplest, most recognisable form. Once transposed onto a canvas or another medium, even the most common trappings of our modern civilisation, like a simple banana, can become works of art. Studio Job brings together two free spirits, Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel, renowned for their rebellious, non-conformist way of creating a unique world. The Flemish couple work in both the industrial world and the world of art and design on projects combining craftmanship and a highly expressive avant-garde language rich in symbols, often for limited editions.
This banana-shaped lamp is a fun and bold statement piece, perfect for adding a touch of humour and colour to modern, playful interiors. Its resin and glass construction give it a contemporary feel, making it suitable for eclectic, pop-inspired spaces or even a lively kitchen or studio. To style it effectively, consider placing it alongside simple, neutral furniture to let it stand out or pairing it with other quirky accessories for a curated, personality-packed look. Practical tip: use it as a bedside or side table lamp to inject a bit of whimsy without sacrificing functionality. It’s a great way to personalise a space with a sense of fun and creativity.
