Description

Clean, pure and elegant, the Austin oak 5 shelf bookcase evokes the spirit of classic Scandinavian designs from the 50s and 60s.;This bookcase provides a generous amount of storage space on its light, cross frame, which has a smooth, gently rounded, solid oak edge detail and complements the Austin dining tables.;Designed in house by Matt Long, this design is made from solid and veneered oak in a small factory in Estonia.;The design's slightly whitened finish is created by a matt lacquer that also protects it.

Our Stylist Says

The Austin Oak 5 Shelf Bookcase is a versatile piece that works well in both contemporary and Scandi-inspired interiors thanks to its natural timber finish and clean, minimalist design. I love how its open structure offers plenty of space for organising books, decorative accessories, or plants, making it both functional and stylish. Practical styling tips include layering favourite books with textured objects or small indoor plants to create an inviting display. It’s also worth considering pairing it with other natural timber or neutral-toned furniture to maintain a cohesive look, or using colour-coordinated storage bins on the lower shelves for a neat, organised appearance. The simplicity of this piece makes it adaptable to various rooms, from living areas and bedrooms to home offices.

About Habitat

Founded in 1964, Habitat are a renowned brand, and a go-to destination for modern and stylish furniture and home accessories.

The Birth of Habitat

In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.

The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.

Rapid Expansion & Legacy

Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.

The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.

Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.

Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.

Innovation & Collaboration

Habitat has always been at the forefront of modern design. Throughout its history, the brand has been renowned for its collaborations with acclaimed artists and designers, ensuring it consistently offers unique, limited-edition collections.

Under the umbrella of the Sainsbury's Group since 2017, Habitat continues its tradition of merging contemporary aesthetics with functional design, solidifying its reputation as a leading name in home furnishings.
