Description

Clean, pure and elegant, the Austin 8 seat oak rectangular dining table evokes the spirit of classic Scandinavian designs from the 50s and 60s. Designed in house by Matt Long and made from solid and veneered oak, the table's cross frame and stretcher bar have smooth, gently rounded edges. The table is made in a small factory in Estonia and a matching bench is available, together with a round Austin dining table. The design's attractive, slightly whitened finish is created by a matt lacquer that also protects it.

Our Stylist Says

I really like this oak table for its versatile and understated appeal. Its simple, rectangular form makes it an ideal centrepiece for both modern and rustic interiors, offering plenty of space for family dinners or entertaining friends. The natural oak finish adds warmth and texture, which pairs well with a variety of colour schemes and seating styles. For styling, consider balanced table settings with neutral crockery and subdued colours, or introduce a pop of colour with accessories like placemats or centrepieces. It also works beautifully with upholstered chairs for a softer look or mixed with wooden or metal chairs for a more eclectic vibe. Its straightforward design lends itself to a clutter-free space, allowing your other decor and textiles to shine.

About Habitat

Founded in 1964, Habitat are a renowned brand, and a go-to destination for modern and stylish furniture and home accessories.

The Birth of Habitat

In 1964, Sir Terence Conran founded Habitat in London, aiming to bring a fresh European touch to UK home decor.

The first store, located on Fulham Road in Chelsea, became the blueprint for all Habitat stores to come. The store stood out with its distinct design, and was famously known for selling affordable pasta storage jars just as the pasta market began booming in the UK.

Rapid Expansion & Legacy

Habitat grew swiftly in the UK during the 1960s and even crossed borders with its first international store in Paris in 1973.

The brand's journey through the decades saw various mergers and acquisitions, including its integration with Sainsbury's Group in 2017.

Habitat's innovation extended beyond products; they even launched a mail-order system in 1966 and initiated the concept of flat-pack furniture in 1971.

Celebrating its rich history, the brand marked its 50th anniversary in 2014 by collaborating with past designers and commissioning a special logo.

Innovation & Collaboration

Habitat has always been at the forefront of modern design. Throughout its history, the brand has been renowned for its collaborations with acclaimed artists and designers, ensuring it consistently offers unique, limited-edition collections.

Under the umbrella of the Sainsbury's Group since 2017, Habitat continues its tradition of merging contemporary aesthetics with functional design, solidifying its reputation as a leading name in home furnishings.
