From the Muse collection by Jonathan Adler, this surrealist vase is decorated with four faces in relief. Each face cut in two reveals a mat porcelain profile from one angle and a sparkling golden silhouette from another. Sculptural and atypical, the vases by Jonathan Adler have the peculiarity of bringing out in relief, poetically and surreally, parts of the body (face, nipples, etc. ) borrowed from these idealised women whom our greatest artists took as their muses. Ceramicist, designer and internationally renowned interior designer, Jonathan Adler first became passionate about terracotta and exhibited his first pottery collection at Barneys in New York in 1993. "Earth is the basis of my work and will always be" affirms Jonathan Adler. For each ceramic piece from the collection, a prototype is made by hand in Jonathan Adler's workshop located in the achingly hip So Ho neighbourhood of New York.
I really like this piece for its sculptural quality and added personality-it’s not just a vase, but an art object. The faces in relief give it a contemporary edge that works well in modern, eclectic, or minimalist interiors. It’s versatile enough to sit on a side table, shelf, or mantel, either with fresh flowers or as a standalone decorative piece. For styling tips, try pairing it with neutral tones to let it stand out, or combine with other ceramics and textured materials for a layered look. Its bold design makes it a conversation starter, so place it where it can be appreciated close-up.
