David Watson collaborates with local artists creating classic British designs. Terence Gilbert was born in London in 1946 and trained at Camberwell Art School. He used to visit the National Gallery (where his father worked) studying the techniques of the old masters. Among the better-known commissions he has painted are a portrait of King Hussein of Jordan given by Mrs Thatcher and of Her Majesty The Queen and President Reagan riding, which was presented to the President in The White House. This design was inspired by the elegant ladies at Ladies' Day during the Ascot races together with the anticipated thrill of a potential winner.
I love the Ascot velvet cushion for its bold, vibrant print that adds a lively touch to both traditional and contemporary interiors. Its rich velvet fabric brings a sense of luxury and texture, making it perfect for layered sofas or armchairs in living rooms and reading nooks. It's especially effective when paired with neutral tones to let the colours really pop, but it can also complement other jewel-toned accessories for a more eclectic look. For practical styling, consider mixing it with plain cushions in solid colours to keep the space balanced, and it works well in settings where you want to introduce a moment of visual interest without overwhelming the overall colour scheme.
