I’m a fan of this grey cantilever stool for its blend of comfort and urban edge - the PU leather-effect upholstery is hard-wearing and easy to wipe clean, while the slim metal frame feels light yet sturdy. It works particularly well in contemporary or industrial kitchens and home bars, especially when paired with concrete or reclaimed-wood countertops. For a softer look, try draping a knitted throw or adding a slim lumbar cushion in a contrasting colour.

In 1980, Chris Dawson set up a simple open-air market stall in Plymouth.
