Description

The Alarik's blue pattern was designed in celebration of the beautiful textiles of Barbro Nilsson. To make each rug, yarn is first turned by hand on a wheel, dipping it into a vat of dye that gives it its colour, then it is hung to dry in the sun, giving every single thread individual characteristics. Neutral-coloured yarn is then pulled tight vertically on a loom and different coloured threads are intricately woven horizontally into a pattern by hand. This type of kilim weave requires a huge amount of skill, passed down through families from generation to generation, and is an intricate, artisanal process that results in each rug being utterly unique. Kilims have been used for millennia to bring warmth, decoration and communication through their colourful symbolic motifs, differing from other styles of rug due to their flat, tapestry-like texture.

Our Stylist Says

I love the Alarik Rug for its bold indigo-toned check pattern, which adds a touch of graphic interest without overwhelming a space. It works beautifully in both contemporary and classic interiors, especially when paired with natural textures or simple furniture to let the pattern stand out. For styling tips, consider layering it over neutral or light-coloured flooring to make the colours pop. It also pairs well with timber or rattan accents and can anchor a seating area or serve as a statement piece in a bedroom. Practical advice includes ensuring it’s placed in a low-traffic area or using a rug pad to keep it secure, especially if you’re layering it with other textiles or furniture.
